Yearly Scholarships
We are currently offering the following scholarships to graduating seniors:
Candy Clark Scholarship
This scholarship honors Candy Clark, a secondary art teacher in Kettering for 39 years. This scholarship will go to a graduating senior who has taken at least two years of art classes with a B or better average and will be an Art Education major in college. Applicants must submit a portfolio of art work with a minimum of three pieces. Candidates must have successful employment or volunteer experience. If all else is equal, financial need will be considered.
Catherine Riordon Scholarship
Established in honor of this outstanding Kettering educator who devoted her life to teaching music, this scholarship is awarded to a deserving graduating senior with a 2.5 minimum GPA, who demonstrates financial need.
The Chief’s Scholarship
This scholarship was founded to continue the bond between fathers and their sons/daughters established in the Indian (Adventure) Guide and Princess Programs sponsored by the Kettering South Community YMCA. Graduates of the program who are graduating seniors with a 2.5 minimum GPA may apply.
Class of 1950 Scholarship
The surviving members of the Class of 1950 are proud to be the first graduation class of Fairmont to offer a scholarship. Candidates must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and a minimum 28 ACT or 1310 SAT score. They must show involvement in extracurricular activities and demonstrate financial need.
Diane Patterson Memorial Scholarship
Diane enjoyed a life filled with love, learning, and service. After a lengthy nursing career punctuated by a 25-year management tenure in addiction services for Miami Valley Hospital, Diane turned from healthcare management to inspiring and teaching the next generation of healthcare workers. She started a new adventure teaching Allied Health at Kettering Fairmont High School. This scholarship goes to a graduating senior from Fairmont’s Allied Health Program who plans to major in a healthcare-related field and who has successful work or volunteer experience.
Doug Weikert Scholarship
This scholarship honors Doug Weikert, a former Kettering teacher and coach, who took great pride in teaching math and in helping his athletes reach their goals. It will be awarded to a graduating senior who participated in a high school sport for at least three years. Preference will be given to track and basketball athletes who demonstrate hard work and good character.
Fairmont Men’s Soccer Brotherhood Scholarship
Created by Fairmont graduate Caleb Berlon (2011), who recognized the need to encourage the values of integrity and hard work beyond soccer. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior and member of the men’s soccer team who demonstrates leadership, citizenship, work ethic, and financial need.
Gail Latham Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor Gail Latham, a newspaper journalist of the highest caliber and a proud Firebird parent and band volunteer. Applicants should plan to pursue a career in communications, advertising, public relations, journalism, digital communication, photography, or a similar field. No minimum GPA.
Jeff Guernsey Memorial Scholarship
Jeff Guernsey was a firefighter for the Washington Township Fire Department for 30 years. A
lieutenant, Jeff was in charge of the department’s honor guard and was known as the class clown of the department. He was the guy that family and friends could count on when in need of help. This scholarship was established to help students further their education in a fire-related field. Applicants must be a graduating senior from Kettering Fairmont High School’s fire science program and plan to major or obtain a certificate in a fire-related major, including paramedic programs.
Joan B. DeLon National Honor Society Scholarship
This scholarship honors Joan DeLon, a former teacher and long-time advisor to the National Honor Society. This scholarship will go to a member of the National Honor Society. Preference will be given to teacher education majors, but all majors are welcome to apply. If all else is equal, financial need will be considered.
John Pitstick Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created to honor the spirit and memory of Fairmont West graduate John Pitstick (1978), a varsity football player and student who enjoyed high school and made lifelong friends at Fairmont. The scholarship goes to a Fairmont student athlete who participated in a sport all 4 years of high school and who plans to major in education. No minimum GPA.
Patricia Dudick Scholarship
This scholarship was established by former Kettering teacher Patricia Dudick to honor a former student of hers. The applicant must have been a student in Mrs. Dudick’s 1st or 3rd grade class at Moraine Meadows or JFK Elementary. The student must demonstrate financial need and have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Ray Albrecht Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the family of Ray Albrecht as a memorial tribute to the hard work and dedication that he showed in all aspects of his life and for his commitment to sending 11 kids and six grandchildren through the Kettering School System. No minimum GPA. The student should demonstrate financial need and a strong work ethic in addition to participating in extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and/or employment.
Robert Kritzer and Fran Eden Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes Robert Kritzer and Fran Eden for their lifelong commitment to student athletes and their standards of excellence regarding athletics, academics, and leadership. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate evidence of leadership and sportsmanship.
Sally Roush Brown Scholarship
This scholarship was established to pay tribute to former teacher and Kettering Board of Education member, Sally Roush Brown. The Brown family developed this scholarship for a graduating senior at Fairmont who has exhibited outstanding leadership qualities. Minimum 3.5 GPA.
Sue (Reinicke) Fanelli Scholarship
Sue (Reinicke) Fanelli was raised in Kettering and graduated from Fairmont West High School in 1966. After college she returned to Kettering to teach elementary school for over thirty years. This scholarship is for a graduating Fairmont senior or a current college student who graduated from Kettering Fairmont who plans to major in teacher education.
Pat’s Scholarship for Prass Elementary School
This scholarship goes to a graduating senior from Kettering Fairmont who attended Prass Elementary School. The student should demonstrate a high level of academic achievement and community service in addition to participating in extracurricular activities.
Pat’s Scholarship for Wright State University
This scholarship goes to a graduating senior from Kettering Fairmont who demonstrates a high level of academic achievement and community service in addition to participating in extracurricular activities. The student must be accepted to attend Wright State University.
Pat’s Scholarship for Ohio University
This scholarship goes to a graduating senior from Kettering Fairmont who demonstrates a high level of academic achievement and community service in addition to participating in extracurricular activities. The student must be accepted to attend Ohio University.
Miss Leah Funck Memorial Scholarship
Leah Funck was an instructor of English and Speech for 51 years, teaching at
Fairmont High School for 40 of those years. She also served as Chair of the English Department. Her students frequently competed in district, state, and national competitions. After she retired, she served as a judge in forensics. This scholarship will go to a graduating senior from Fairmont, giving preference to students who participated in theater, speech, or debate and to those who are first
generation college students. Financial need will be considered if all else is equal.
Pat’s Scholarship for Women
This scholarship goes to a female graduating senior from Kettering Fairmont who demonstrates a high level of academic achievement and community service in addition to participating in extracurricular activities. The student must be accepted to a two-year, four-year, technical school or college or university.

Barbara Stager Memorial Scholarship
The Barbara Stager Memorial Scholarship recognizes the life and legacy of Barb Stager, former teacher at Fairmont West, who made a lasting impact as a teacher, mentor, volleyball coach, and cheerleading advisor. Even in retirement, Barb’s passion for education and the performing arts never waned. She treasured volunteering with Fairmont’s musical theater productions and Illusion Show Choir. Applicants must be planning a course of study in education or musical theatre, must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and must demonstrate financial need.

The Chase Hale Scholarship
The Chase Hale Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of T. Chase Hale, who was a 2002 graduate of Kettering Fairmont High School, captain of both his swimming and tennis teams, and died in an automobile accident in 2007. This scholarship is awarded to both a male and a female member of the swimming team nominated by the coaches. Students do not apply for this scholarship.
The Kesling Family Scholarship
The Kesling Family Scholarship was established by former Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano and Fairmont grad, Diane Kesling, to honor her parents, Betty Kesling Smith and Devon Kesling. Both Betty and Devon were Kettering graduates and active participants in the music program. Nominations from the music teachers go to the Scholarship Selection Committee. Students do not apply for this scholarship.
The Kettering Jaycees Scholarship
The Kettering Jaycees Scholarship was established by the Kettering Jaycees Foundation to assist Fairmont seniors who are graduating from the Automotive Trades Program. The award is a one-year scholarship given to a student who is active in the community and school and who is recommended by his or her teachers for this scholarship. Students do not apply for this scholarship.
